Hatfield Secures $2 Million MassWorks Grant for Route 5 Sewer and Water
HATFIELD — December 19, 2019 — Hatfield wins a $2 million MassWorks grant to extend sewer and water service along Route 5. Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Connelly traveled to Hatfield Memorial Town Hall on December 19 to formally present the award, which will fund sewer extension from Linseed Road to Rocks Road and 1,200 feet of water service south of Rocks Road. Select Board Chair Brian Moriarty noted the full project is estimated at $3.6 million, meaning the town must raise an additional $1.6 million — likely through a spring Town Meeting article and possible ballot question. DPW Director Phil Genovese said final design is the next step, with construction targeted for next season. Stiebel Eltron co-owner Frank Stiebel, whose company employs 3,000 worldwide and operates a Hatfield facility, said the grant would allow the company to build additional warehouse space along the corridor.
