Hatfield School Committee Unanimously Approves Teachers Association Extracurricular MOA

HATFIELD — September 8, 2021 — Hatfield School Committee approves teachers association agreement and receives student mental health data from local nonprofit. The committee voted unanimously at its September 8 meeting to approve a memorandum of agreement with the Hatfield Teachers Association governing extracurricular activities under the current collective bargaining agreement, including the CREW social-emotional learning program. Superintendent Michael Wood reported that the district's insurance carrier will conduct a preliminary roof assessment at the elementary school this week, with findings expected to inform the town capital plan, and said staffing at both schools would be complete by week's end. Representatives from Heads Up, an all-volunteer Hatfield mental health nonprofit, told the committee that nearly 30 percent of students self-report anxiety and nearly 4 percent have considered suicide, citing 2019 school screening data. The organization announced an October 14 outdoor screening of the anti-bullying documentary "Upstanders" with a ServiceNet social worker scheduled to present.
