School Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Hatfield School Committee approves Orlando band trip, Holyoke hockey co-op. Members voted unanimously to send the Smith Academy Band, now 65 members strong, to perform at Universal Studios in March at an estimated $1,800 per student before fundraising, and voted 5-0 to add Holyoke to its field hockey co-op after Holyoke's own program folded. Superintendent Dr.

Driscoll walked members through a 105-page DESE district review that called the schools' learning environment a standout strength ("we really don't see this often") but urged more written documentation on fiscal agreements, data analysis and leadership roles. Chair Christy Boudreau reported the district running roughly $29,000 ahead of its budget plan, boosted by a $75,000 earmark secured by state Sen. Comerford and a $34,000 curriculum grant.

The committee also fast-tracked a new state-mandated "Protect Act" policy and gave a second reading to updated restraint and seclusion procedures.
