Hatfield School Committee Approves Two-Year Contract for Permanent Superintendent

HATFIELD — February 9, 2022 — Hatfield School Committee unanimously approved a two-year contract for Superintendent Scott Wood, ending his interim tenure. The committee voted at its February 9 meeting to install Wood as permanent superintendent from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024, after returning from executive session. Chair Rebecca Bench, who also accepted appointment as the committee's representative to the town's Master Planning Committee, noted the group was "very excited to be working with Mr. Wood." Earlier in the meeting, Wood reported the state's school mask mandate would lift February 28 — one day before the local Board of Health order expires March 1 — and said the policy subcommittee would meet the following week to chart the district's response. Wood also confirmed that Melissa Petra had accepted the Hatfield Elementary School principal position, with a start date no later than March 18, and that cafeteria staff wages would be raised to minimum wage at a cost of approximately $800 to the enterprise fund for the remainder of the fiscal year.
