Hatfield Select Board Approves Police Hire, Veterans Home Resolution in August Meeting

HATFIELD — August 11, 2020 — Hatfield Select Board unanimously backs Holyoke Soldiers Home resolution and approves new police officer. At the August 11 meeting, the three-member board passed a resolution urging Governor Charlie Baker and the legislature to fund a new 250-bed Holyoke Soldiers Home with a VA project submission deadline of April 15, 2021, noting that 125 of Hatfield's 173 identified veterans are over 62 and potential candidates for care there. The board also appointed Edward Kennedy as a full-time evening-shift police officer on Chief Dakoshak's written recommendation, approved a revised building inspection fee schedule effective October 1 benchmarked against surrounding communities, abated a $1,898.74 water bill at 139 West Street after a landlord-installed meter malfunctioned at an unoccupied trailer, appointed two election workers, and accepted the warrant for the September 1 state primary as more than 500 mail ballots were already in circulation.
