Hatfield's Planning Board finalized a battery storage flyer and cleared a porch conversion ahead of next week's Town Meeting. Chair Stephanie Slysz and members James C. Tarr, Douglas Finn and John Jeffress spent much of the May 6 meeting editing public information materials on battery energy storage systems, warned by Assistant Planner Isabella Yeager that Hatfield could lose most local control over such projects if it doesn't adopt its own bylaw before a July 1, 2026 state deadline.
The board unanimously found that a porch-to-bathroom conversion at 45 West Street, proposed by homeowner Kay Marsh and builder Kelly Plotts, does not expand an existing zoning nonconformity. Other warrant articles headed to Town Meeting include $40,000 in Community Preservation Committee funding for a housing production plan and a proposed affordable housing trust. "I own 45 West Street," Marsh told the board.
