Hatfield Planning Board Accepts Cannabis Farm Permit Withdrawal at Depot Road

HATFIELD — October 1, 2019 — Hatfield Planning Board unanimously accepts withdrawal of cannabis cultivation permit application at 55 Depot Road. Urban Grown Inc., which had sought a special permit and site plan approval to operate two greenhouses for cannabis growing on a Depot Road farm, withdrew its application without prejudice at the October 1 continued hearing, citing the cost and complexity of engineering requirements flagged in a Berkshire Design Group review commissioned by the board. Board Chair Bob Wagner clarified that the requirements — covering floodplain and wetland conditions, parking, and road access — were not new impositions but existing bylaw standards for any special permit. The withdrawal follows a host community agreement approved by the Hatfield Select Board in August 2019, and leaves the Depot Road property operating legally as an industrial hemp farm under Massachusetts law.
